El 22 de Mayo fué la inaguración de BAMM Latino, y que fiestón!
Hace algunos meses empezó la idea de BAMM Latino, de como aquí en BAMM.tv podíamos servirle a un público deseoso de encontrar música Latina. La idea fué creciendo, hasta llegar a la decisión de hacer una fiesta e introducirnos al mundo. Conseguimos dos agrupaciones, una grupo encabezado por Erick Barbería y Sandy Pérez, y la otra, TROPICALI.
Procedentes de familias musicales, Erick Barbería y Ramón "Sandy" García Pérez, son dos de los mejores artistas cubanos en el Área de la Bahía. Erick se graduó de la ENA (Escuela Nacional del Arte) como profesor de baile y comenzó su carrera profesional trabajando en la ciudad de Matanzas, como bailarín y percusionista. Sandy, un maestro batelero/conguero, y percusionista principal por 12 años con Grupo Afro-Cuba de Matanzas, es reconocido en todo el mundo por sus experiencia como percusionista e instructor. Con sus instrumentos y voces, junto con otros músicos y estudiantes, forman una agrupación que experimenta con la música folklórica y popular de Cuba.
TROPICALI salió de la unión de cuatro músicos con diferentes antecedentes e influencias artísticas en el Área de la Bahía de San Francisco. Con un interés en comun: Crear una pieza musical diversa e innovadora, mesclando ritmos afro-americanos en toda sus extensiones (America del Norte, Centro y Sur). Influencias de Samba, Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk, Forro, Maracatu, Reggae, Salsa, Dub y sonidos electronicos, son notables en su meslca. El grupo cuanta con una riquesa rítmica e harmónica, presentando una gran varied de instrumentos de percusión étnica combinado con guitarra brazileña. El bajo con mucho funk crea la textura del sonido.La noche empezó complicada. Gracias a un evento de la ciudad de San Fracisco, una de las calles mas importantes, estuvo cerradas. Para más, la batería del carro de uno de los artistas se murió. Estuvimos en vivo a partir de las 7:00pm, con la música empezando a las 7:30pm. Pero cuando sonó el primer tambor, todo mejoró.
Fueron las congas y voces de Erick Barbería, Sandy Pérez y su grupo, que dieron la bienvenida a toda la audiencia con una rumba que nos llamó la atención a todos. Despues de ellos, vino un set inpromptu de Joan Cerqueiro, haciendo unas cancionsitas acústicas. Fué muy íntimo, su voz y su guitarra, sin más. Finalmente, llegó TROPICALI invadiendo nuestros cuerpos con sus canciones energéticas que hizo que toda la audiencia en el estudio bailara.
En el transcurso de la noche tuvimos hasta 1187 espectadores por internet y comentarios muy positivos no solo por internet, pero también de aquellas personas en nuestro estudio. Cualquier cosa que antes o al principio del evento se había sentido como un error, o preocupación, se fue desapareciendo durante el transcurso de la noche. El evento fue un éxito total.
Por el momento no tenemos fecha concreta de cuando BAMM Latino comenzará sus episodios, tenemos pensado en algun momento en el mes de Julio. Lo que si nos dimos cuenta a través de la fiesta "Bienvenidos a BAMM Latino" fué no solo que hay una gran variedad de talento, pero un gran deseo de escuchar música Latinoamericana. Por eso BAMM Latino se dedicará a colaborar con el desarrollo creativo de artistas Latinoamericanos y difundir su talento a todo el mundo.

May 22nd BAMM Latino had it's inauguration and what a party!
Some months ago we got this idea about BAMM Latino, about how BAMM.tv could provide a public eager to find Latino music. The idea started growing, and then we arrived at the decision to throw a party and introduce ourselves to the world. We booked two bands, one group headed by Erick Barberia and Sandy Perez, and the other, TROPICALI.
Born into musical families, Erick Barbería and Ramón "Sandy" García Pérez, are two of the most prominent Cuban artist in the Bay Area. Erick graduated the ENA (National School of the Arts) as a dance teacher and began his professional career working in Matanzas as a dancer, and percussionist. Sandy, a master Batalero/Congero, and principal/lead percussionist for 12 years with Grupo Afro-Cuba de Matanzas, is recognized all over the world for his expertise as a percussionist and instructor. Using their drums and voices they come together with other artist and students, to bring us a group that experiments with folkloric and popular music from Cuba.
TROPICALI came about from the union of four musicians from different backgrounds and artistic influences in the San Francisco Bay Area. With one common interest: To develop a plural and innovative musical piece, joining African American rhythms in all their extension (North, Central and South American). Influences of Samba, Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk, Forro, Maracatu, Reggae, Salsa, Dub and some electronics, are noticeable into their mix. The group counts on a very rich rhytmic and harmonic pace, presenting a wide variety of ethnic percussion instruments in the mix with a brazilian nylon string guitar. Funky bass lines create the texture of this sound.
The night started out rough. Thanks to a San Francisco City event, one of the biggest streets was shut down. And then, the car battery of one of the musicians died. We were live starting at 7:00pm, with music starting at 7:30pm. But with the first strick to the drum, everything felt better.
It was the congas and voices of Erick Barbería, Sandy Pérez and their group, that welcomed all the audience with a rumba that caught everyones attention. After them, came an impromptu set from Joan Cerqueiro, doing a few acoustic songs. It was very intimate, his voice and his guitar, and no more. Lastly but not least, TROPICALI invaded our bodies with energetic songs that made all of our audience in the studio dance.
In the course of the night we had up to 1187 viewers online and positive comments not only online, but also from those that joined us at our studio. Whatever we felt that was a going wrong or worrying us, went disappearing throughout the night. The event was a total success.
For the moment we don't have a specific date in which BAMM Latino will continue it's episodes, we're thinking that it will be sometime in the month of July. What we did realize though the party "Bienvenidos a BAMM Latino" was that not only is there variety of talent, but a great desire to listen to Latin-American music. That's why BAMM Latino will concentrate on colaborating with the creative development of Latin-American artist and share their talent with the world.
